The Joplin Memorial Run (JMR) is in it’s FINAL Year. Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18, 2024

Hosted at Downtown Joplin- Memorial Hall/Cornell Art Complex (8th and Joplin)

US Bank Walk of Silence will be hosted Friday, May 17, 7 PM- Free and Open to the Public

JMR is an event to honor the 161 victims from the 2011 Joplin Tornado as well as celebrate Joplin’s resilience in overcoming the destruction of 8000 structures. The events include the Freeman half-marathon, Sparklight 10K, Liberty 5K, and Sign Designs Kid’s Run, on Saturday, May 20. Packet Pickup is Friday, May 17 at the Cornell Complex, 212 W 7th Street in downtown Joplin.

AGE LIMITS

Minimum age for participation is 11 years for the Half Marathon. Minimum age for the 10k is 10 years old, 5k-no age limit but parent and child must register and participate together, kids’ run is 0-17 years old, It is the responsibility of the parent(s) to determine whether you feel your child is properly trained and physically capable of successfully completing this event. 

TIME LIMITS

Walkers are welcome on all courses as long as they can finish within cut off times.

Course closures will be a rolling cut off based on finish time. If you fall behind pace of rolling closure you may chose to be brought back in an official race vehicle (recommended) or continue on your own, however you will be officially out of the race at this point with no support.

There will be NO EXCEPTION to the cut off times.

Freeman Half Marathon 4 hours (18 min mile pace)- 6:30 AM- 10:30 AM

Sparklight 10K 2 hours 6:30 AM-8:30 AM

Liberty 5k 2 hours 6:45 AM- 8:30 AM
Sign Designs Kids Run 1/2 mile 25 mins 11:00 AM-11:25 AM

161 Banner Distribution to Families starts at 11:30 AM

ALL PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT TO RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING AMENITIES

-Custom shirt and finisher medal for all races
-Finish line refreshments and admission to post race party area
-Virtual runners will receive bib, goodie bag, shirt, and medal 2-3 weeks after the event.

Award Categories

Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K awards will be given for the top three overall finishers plus the 1st-3rd place male and female finishers in the following age divisions:

12 & under (5k race only)
13-15 (5k race only)
16-19 (5k race only)
19 & Under
20-24, 25-29
30-34, 35-39
40-44, 45-49
50-54, 55-59
60-64, 65-69
70 & Over 

Kids' Run is untimed. All kids receive a finisher medal 

A Note About Official Times for Prizes and Awards: There will be no duplication of trophies or plaque awards. Winners must verify their times and age group and pick up their award immediately after the race at the designated tent. There will not be an awards ceremony for any race.The results for the overall winners will be based on the actual order of finish (“gun time”). Age category awards will be based on chip time.

WHAT’S PROHIBITED
(NONCOMPLIANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING MAY RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION)

No Pets and No Dogs with spectators or runners. NO outside alcohol at any JMR events/venues. Unregistered runners, unauthorized vehicles, bicycles, roller skates, rollerblades, skateboards and runners with pets are strictly prohibited to assure runner safety and to comply with liability insurance requirements. Strollers and baby-joggers are only allowed for the 5k race and must start in the back. Finally, any type of support or unauthorized pacing will not be allowed. 

WEATHER 

We will host the race under most weather conditions: rain or shine. Extreme conditions or unsafe weather (lighting, extreme temperatures, etc) may warrant a cancellation or rescheduling of the event. This is at the discretion of the race director and will be made based on the safety of the racers, volunteers, and spectators. Every effort will be made to continue with the race. Modifications may be made to the event will not be allowed.
